Averi was inspired to paint various Indian Chiefs after learning about them through stories and old photographs at an art auction in Big Sky, MT in 2021. This is Chief Dewey Beard: Dewey Beard or Wasú Máza was a Minneconjou Lakota who fought in the Battle of Little Bighorn as a teenager. After George Armstrong Custer's defeat, Wasu Maza followed Sitting Bull into exile in Canada and then back to South Dakota where he lived on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation.
Averi completed this at age 16. Original 48 x 30.
Averi Iris Smith is a Montana native, a self taught teen artist, and athlete living in Bozeman Montana, attending her senior year of high school. As many kids do, Averi loved to paint as a young child, the only difference is she never stopped loving it. When she was 10 she sold her first piece but it wasn't until the summer before freshman year that she found her style. It continues to develop and change with each piece but her signature pop of color mixed with realistic tones has continued to be her trademark.With encouragement of her family and plenty of supplies, Averi fully embraced her passion and has been selling her paintings ever since.
